Car Accidents in Texas
With its growing population and vast network of highways, Texas continues to report thousands of crashes every month. In 2023, over 240,000 people were injured in traffic-related incidents across the state. Many of these wrecks take place at busy intersections, where speeding, distractions, and misjudgment often combine with high traffic volumes to increase the likelihood of injury.
Let’s take a closer look at some common causes behind these types of accidents:
- Running Red Lights or Stop Signs: One of the most dangerous behaviors at intersections is ignoring traffic signals. Whether out of haste or distraction, drivers who run red lights risk T-bone crashes that often cause severe injuries to passengers on the struck side.
- Speeding Through Intersections: Speeding may reduce a driver’s ability to react in time. When entering a busy crossing too fast, drivers can’t always avoid those slowing down or stopping, leading to high-impact collisions.
- Failure to Yield Right of Way: Misunderstanding or ignoring who has the right of way can lead to side-impact crashes or head-on collisions. These incidents often occur when drivers are turning left across traffic or merging improperly.
- Distracted Driving: Whether glancing at a phone or being deep in thought, even a moment of inattention can cause a driver to miss signal changes or sudden stops, contributing to preventable wrecks.
- Impaired or Fatigued Driving: Drivers under the influence or overly tired may react slowly or misjudge distances. Both states can impair decision-making, especially at complex intersections or when traffic patterns change suddenly.
