Forney, TX (August 3, 2025) – Emergency teams responded to a serious accident involving a young bicyclist and a vehicle at the intersection of Ridgecrest Road and Deacon Drive.
On August 3, Forney Fire Department and local police were called to the scene following reports of a child on a bicycle struck by a vehicle. CareFlite Ground EMS arrived shortly after and evaluated the victim’s injuries. Due to the seriousness of the incident, CareFlite Medic 18 launched a medical helicopter to the crash site. The child was airlifted to a nearby trauma center for advanced care.
The incident prompted officials to close off the area temporarily while police gathered evidence and cleared the scene. Local authorities have not yet released the identity of the juvenile, and the driver’s condition or whether any citations were issued is not currently known. Investigators with the Texas Department of Public Safety are managing the case and will release more details as they become available.
We hope the young victim recovers quickly and fully.
Auto-Pedestrian Accidents in Texas
Auto-pedestrian crashes in Texas continue to be a growing concern, especially in suburban and residential areas where children are often present. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, nearly 6,000 pedestrian-involved crashes occurred in the state in the most recent annual reporting period, with more than 800 fatalities. These tragic numbers emphasize the need for careful driving and awareness in neighborhoods, intersections, and school zones.
When these crashes happen, families are left reeling with medical decisions, financial uncertainty, and emotional distress. Here are some key reasons they happen and how to stay safe:
- Distracted Driving: A significant number of pedestrian accidents occur because drivers are distracted by phones, navigation systems, or conversations. Even a few seconds of inattention can lead to a life-altering collision.
- Low Visibility Conditions: Many accidents involving pedestrians and bicyclists happen at dusk or night, when visibility is reduced. Wearing bright or reflective clothing and using lights can help increase safety, especially for young riders.
- Failure to Yield at Intersections: Some drivers don’t slow down at crosswalks or ignore pedestrian right-of-way signs. This is especially dangerous in areas where children frequently cross streets to reach parks or schools.
- Speeding in Residential Areas: Even small increases in speed significantly reduce the time drivers have to react. In neighborhoods, speed limits are lowered for a reason—because reaction time is everything when a child suddenly appears in the road.
- Lack of Safe Infrastructure: Many communities lack bike lanes, sidewalks, or safe crosswalks, increasing the risk of injury. Municipalities need to invest in better pedestrian infrastructure to reduce future incidents.
