Woodville, TX (April 14, 2025) – A serious crash involving four vehicles shut down both directions of Highway 69 near Woodville on April 10, leaving five people injured—two of them in critical condition. The incident unfolded around 5 p.m. just south of town near Parker Lumber, according to law enforcement.
Woodville Police Chief Mike McCulley reported that the initial wreck involved a head-on collision between an SUV and a small passenger car. Inside the car were a 16-year-old girl and her mother, both of whom sustained life-threatening injuries. Medical helicopters flew the two to hospitals, with the teen being transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.
Following the initial crash, two other vehicles became involved in a secondary collision. Two more people were injured in that sequence of events, though they were reported to be in stable condition upon arriving at the hospital. A fifth injured party, a child, was also hurt during the crashes and required medical care.
Highway 69 was closed in both directions for nearly three hours as emergency crews responded and investigators worked to assess the scene. Both northbound and southbound lanes reopened shortly after 7:30 p.m. The Texas Department of Public Safety is leading the investigation, with support from the Tyler County Sheriff’s Office, Woodville Police, and Woodville Fire Department.
We hope all five people injured in this accident, especially the mother and daughter, recover as fully and quickly as possible.
Car Accidents in Texas
Motor vehicle crashes are a persistent concern in Texas, with thousands of collisions taking place on the state’s roads every year. In 2023, the Texas Department of Transportation reported over 15,000 serious injury crashes across the state, underscoring just how often these life-changing incidents occur.
As more information becomes available, here are a few common types of injuries victims may suffer in major crashes like the one in Tyler County:
- Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI): A violent blow or jolt to the head, even with an airbag, can lead to TBIs. Symptoms may not appear right away but can result in long-term memory, emotional, or motor issues.
- Spinal Cord Damage: Head-on and high-impact crashes often cause spinal trauma, which may lead to chronic pain or even permanent disability. Immediate medical attention can reduce long-term damage.
- Internal Bleeding: Some injuries are not visible from the outside. Internal bleeding can go unnoticed for hours but may be life-threatening without prompt care.
- Bone Fractures: Collisions commonly result in broken bones, especially in the legs, arms, and ribs. These injuries often require surgery and weeks of rehabilitation.
- Emotional and Psychological Trauma: Beyond physical injuries, survivors—especially children and teenagers—can suffer from PTSD, anxiety, or depression following a traumatic crash.
