Car Accidents in Texas
Car accidents across Texas result in thousands of injuries every year, many of which happen suddenly and without warning. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, more than 15,000 people sustained serious injuries in crashes in one recent year alone. As the state’s population grows, so do the risks on the roads. Whether it’s due to distracted driving, speed, or failure to yield, these accidents continue to impact lives every day across Texas.
Understanding your rights and knowing what to do after an accident can make a real difference. Here are some key facts about common injuries after a crash:
- Soft Tissue Injuries: Whiplash, sprains, and bruises are common in car crashes, even in low-speed impacts. These injuries can cause pain and limited mobility that linger for weeks or longer. Proper documentation and early treatment are important to avoid long-term complications.
- Concussions and Head Trauma: A sudden jolt in a crash can cause the brain to strike the inside of the skull. Victims may experience headaches, confusion, memory problems, or dizziness. In some cases, symptoms appear hours after the crash, so monitoring is essential.
- Broken Bones: Arms, ribs, and legs are often fractured during collisions. Recovery from broken bones may include surgery or long-term physical therapy, adding to the financial and emotional strain of an accident.
- Internal Injuries: Internal bleeding or damage to organs may not be immediately obvious but can become life-threatening. These injuries often require emergency surgery and intensive care.
- Emotional and Psychological Effects: Car accidents can leave lasting emotional scars, including PTSD, anxiety, or fear of driving. Victims may need counseling or therapy to move forward.
