Car Accidents in Texas
Texas sees hundreds of thousands of crashes every year, and sadly, many of them result in serious injuries or worse. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, over 244,000 people were hurt in crashes across the state in one recent year. The state’s vast roadway system and heavy traffic contribute to a high volume of daily accidents. Many of these collisions are preventable and occur due to careless or distracted driving.
Below are some of the most common types of injuries victims suffer after a serious crash:
- Whiplash and Neck Injuries: Rear-end collisions frequently lead to whiplash, a soft tissue injury that causes neck stiffness, pain, and reduced range of motion. While it may seem minor initially, whiplash can worsen without proper treatment and lead to long-term discomfort.
- Spinal Cord Injuries: Accidents that involve significant force can injure the spine, sometimes resulting in paralysis or permanent nerve damage. These injuries often require extensive rehabilitation and may lead to lifelong physical limitations.
- Head Trauma and Concussions: A sudden jolt or impact to the head can cause concussions or more severe brain injuries. Symptoms can include confusion, memory loss, headaches, and dizziness. In some cases, symptoms take time to appear.
- Broken Bones: From arms and ribs to legs and pelvises, fractures are common in crashes, especially high-speed ones. Some require surgery, and recovery can be long and painful.
- Internal Injuries: Seatbelt force or blunt trauma during a crash may cause damage to internal organs. These injuries aren’t always visible immediately but can be life-threatening without urgent medical care.
- Psychological Trauma: Not all injuries are physical. Survivors of serious crashes may experience anxiety, depression, or post-traumatic stress. Mental health support can be just as important as physical recovery.
