Texarkana, TX (June 19, 2025) – A serious crash involving an SUV and an 18-wheeler left both drivers trapped inside their vehicles early in the morning on June 18 along Interstate 30 Westbound near mile marker 184.
The crash occurred around 5:35 a.m., prompting an urgent response from local fire crews and emergency personnel. Upon arrival, responders discovered both the SUV and the 18-wheeler had sustained major damage, with each driver unable to exit their vehicle due to the impact. Rescue teams worked quickly using heavy equipment to extricate the victims from the wreckage.
Once freed, both drivers were provided immediate medical care at the scene before being transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment. The westbound lanes of I-30 were partially closed during the morning commute as authorities worked to clear the scene and begin an investigation. Preliminary findings have not revealed the cause of the crash. Authorities with the Texas Department of Public Safety are continuing to investigate the events leading up to the collision.
We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.
Truck vs. SUV Accidents in Texas
Texas roadways see frequent collisions involving both passenger vehicles and large commercial trucks. With thousands of trucks sharing highways like Interstate 30, the size and weight difference between 18-wheelers and SUVs often leads to devastating results in the event of a crash. The Texas Department of Transportation has documented a steady increase in these types of wrecks in recent years.
Here’s a closer look at why SUV and truck crashes are so dangerous:
-
Disparity in Vehicle Size: An 18-wheeler can weigh up to 80,000 pounds when fully loaded, while most SUVs weigh only a fraction of that. This size mismatch often results in significant damage to the smaller vehicle and increases the chance of serious injury to its occupants.
-
High Center of Gravity: SUVs are more prone to rolling over, especially when struck from the side or rear by a larger vehicle. This can lead to occupants being trapped inside or suffering from spinal and head injuries.
-
Reduced Stopping Distance: Semi-trucks take longer to stop, particularly when traveling at highway speeds. If an SUV merges abruptly or slows down unexpectedly, a truck may not be able to stop in time, resulting in a collision.
-
Increased Risk of Underride: In a rear-end crash, an SUV may slide beneath the trailer of an 18-wheeler. These types of accidents are often fatal and require specific safety features on trucks to mitigate the danger.
-
Limited Visibility for Truck Drivers: Trucks have large blind spots, and SUVs can easily get lost in them. When a truck changes lanes or turns without seeing the SUV, it may cause a serious side-impact crash.
If you or a loved one were injured in a wreck involving a commercial truck, you should contact a truck accident attorney as soon as possible. Accidents involving 18-wheelers often require immediate investigation to secure key evidence and protect your rights. Whether it’s recovering medical costs, lost income, or damages for pain and suffering, getting help early can make all the difference.
