Car Accidents in Texas
Each year, thousands of crashes occur on Texas highways, leaving many injured or worse. The Texas Department of Transportation reports that in a recent year, more than 600,000 crashes occurred across the state, with nearly 4,500 fatalities and countless injuries. Highways and rural roads are particularly dangerous, as higher speeds and unexpected hazards often lead to severe accidents.
Accidents on highways can happen for many reasons, and it is important to understand the risks involved. Here are some common factors leading to crashes:
- Speeding – Driving at excessive speeds reduces reaction time and increases the likelihood of losing control. Many fatal crashes in Texas are linked to speeding.
- Distracted Driving – Using a phone, eating, or adjusting controls while driving can lead to serious collisions. Even a few seconds of distraction can cause a crash.
- Poor Road Conditions – Potholes, debris, and construction zones contribute to many accidents, especially on rural roads where maintenance may be less frequent.
- Weather Hazards – Rain, fog, and icy conditions can make roads slick and visibility poor, increasing the risk of accidents. Drivers should always adjust their speed accordingly.
