Denton, TX (February 7, 2025) – A serious crash in Denton early Thursday left a pickup truck driver with life-threatening injuries. The collision, which occurred near northbound U.S. Highway 377 and North Elm Street, involved a pickup truck and a roll-off truck.
Authorities responded to the scene in the morning hours of February 6, shutting down the northbound lanes from just south of the TA Travel Center to the Interstate 35 service road. Emergency personnel transported the injured pickup truck driver to a nearby hospital for treatment. As of 1:45 p.m., the individual remained hospitalized. The driver of the roll-off truck was unhurt.
Officials confirmed that each vehicle only had one occupant. Road closures lasted several hours before the scene was cleared and traffic resumed. Investigators are working to determine the circumstances that led to the crash.
We hope the injured driver makes a full recovery.
Truck Accidents in Texas
Truck accidents across Texas lead to significant injuries and road closures each year. With thousands of miles of highways and high levels of commercial traffic, Texas frequently experiences crashes involving large vehicles. Data from the Texas Department of Transportation reveals that in a recent year, thousands of truck-related accidents resulted in severe injuries or fatalities.
Understanding the risks associated with truck accidents is crucial. Below are some common causes of these incidents:
- Blind Spots and Visibility Issues – Large trucks have substantial blind spots, making it difficult for drivers to see smaller vehicles nearby. Collisions often occur when trucks change lanes without seeing another vehicle.
- Driver Fatigue – Many truck drivers work long hours, leading to exhaustion. Fatigue slows reaction times and increases the risk of accidents.
- Improperly Loaded Cargo – Unsecured or unbalanced cargo can cause a truck to become unstable, increasing the likelihood of rollovers or loss-of-control accidents.
- Braking Distance – Trucks require significantly more distance to come to a complete stop compared to passenger vehicles. Sudden braking or following too closely can lead to severe rear-end collisions.
- Mechanical Failures – Faulty brakes, tire blowouts, and engine issues can contribute to dangerous situations on the road. Regular maintenance is essential to preventing these problems.
