Payne Springs, TX (May 11, 2025) – A woman suffered serious injuries after being attacked by a pack of dogs Wednesday night in the Golden Oaks area of Payne Springs. Emergency crews were called to the scene around 9 p.m. on May 7, where they discovered the injured woman and rushed to provide medical care.

According to Payne Springs Fire Rescue, the woman was first airlifted to a hospital in Tyler. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was later transferred to a hospital in Dallas. While her injuries were described as serious, they are reportedly not life-threatening.

Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse confirmed that four dogs believed to have been involved in the attack have been captured. However, animal control officers are still actively searching for additional animals that may have played a role. The total number of dogs involved remains uncertain at this time.

Authorities revealed this was not the first call to the residence. Deputies have responded to incidents at this address previously, though details on prior calls were not immediately shared. The investigation into the attack remains active, and law enforcement has not confirmed if the dogs belong to someone living at the home.

We hope the woman attacked makes a full and swift recovery.

Dog Attacks in Texas

Payne Springs, TX - Woman Mauled by Pack of Dogs in Golden Oaks NeighborhoodDog attacks are unfortunately more common in Texas than many people realize. According to data from the U.S. Postal Service and other national surveys, Texas consistently ranks among the top states for reported dog bites and attacks. These incidents can result in long-lasting physical and emotional scars.

When someone is hurt in a dog attack, it’s important to understand the issues they may face afterward. Here’s what victims often deal with following an incident like this.

  • Severe Physical Injuries: Dog bites can cause puncture wounds, deep lacerations, infections, and permanent disfigurement. Victims often require surgery, physical therapy, and ongoing wound care.
  • Emotional Trauma: Being attacked by dogs can be terrifying. Many survivors report ongoing anxiety, fear of animals, nightmares, and symptoms consistent with PTSD. Recovery is often about both body and mind.
  • Legal and Insurance Complications: Texas law allows victims to pursue compensation if the dog’s owner was negligent, but proving that can be challenging. Insurance companies may also attempt to deny or reduce payouts without legal representation.
  • Repeat Incidents at Same Locations: In some cases, like this one, authorities have visited the same location multiple times. Repeat issues with dangerous animals may indicate ongoing negligence and present a higher risk to the community.
  • Long-Term Medical Costs: Even when injuries aren’t life-threatening, they can lead to costly treatments, missed work, and emotional tolls. Medical bills often grow over time, especially if reconstructive procedures are needed.
