New Boston, TX (July 7, 2025) – A multi-vehicle accident north of New Boston claimed the life of a young driver and left another individual declining treatment at the scene. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the incident occurred on Friday, July 4, along Highway 8.

Preliminary reports indicate that a 2021 Dodge Charger, driven by 19-year-old Kaden Allen of Texarkana, Texas, was traveling southbound on Highway 8 when it collided with a 1999 Freightliner log truck. The Freightliner was headed north on the same stretch of Highway.

Authorities identified the driver of the Freightliner as Richie Delarosa, 29, of Mount Pleasant. He was not injured in the crash. Lane Smith, also 19 and a passenger in the Dodge Charger, chose not to receive medical treatment on-site.

Emergency crews closed off sections of Highway 8 for several hours while they cleared debris and documented the scene. Investigators continue to look into the factors that may have contributed to the collision, including road conditions and vehicle speed. Additional updates may be provided as more information becomes available from the ongoing investigation.

We offer our sympathies to the family of Kaden Allen.

Car Accidents in Texas

New Boston, TX - 19-Year-Old Killed in Highway 8 CollisionMotor vehicle accidents remain one of the leading causes of serious injuries and deaths across Texas. According to recent data, at least one reportable crash occurs every 57 seconds somewhere in the state. While many crashes result in only minor damage, some cause devastating outcomes for victims and families alike. Drivers are urged to remain alert and take necessary precautions when traveling.

Below are a few common issues that often play a role in severe collisions on Texas highways:

  • Distracted Driving: Using cell phones, eating, or adjusting in-car systems can easily divert attention, creating hazards. Remaining focused on the road ahead is critical for everyone’s safety.

  • Failure to Yield: Not yielding when required can result in side-impact or head-on collisions. Knowing right-of-way laws helps prevent these accidents.

  • Speeding: Exceeding posted speed limits or driving too fast for conditions reduces reaction time. Keeping within legal limits can lessen the severity of crashes.

  • Fatigue: Driving while tired impairs judgment and slows response times. Getting adequate rest before long trips is essential for safe travel.

  • Weather Conditions: Rain, fog, or ice can make roads slick and reduce visibility. Slowing down and using extra caution in bad weather helps drivers maintain control.
