Car Accidents in Texas
Car crashes continue to affect thousands of Texans each year. In 2022, the Texas Department of Transportation reported over 244,000 people were injured in vehicle-related incidents across the state. Farm to Market roads, often narrower and with less visibility, present unique challenges to drivers. Accidents on these roads can be just as severe as those on highways, especially after dark.
For those impacted, knowing what to expect can ease uncertainty. Here are some key facts about the legal side of vehicle accidents:
- Crash Reports Are Crucial: In Texas, official crash reports help establish fault, provide insurance documentation, and support injury claims. It’s essential to obtain a copy after any accident.
- Insurance Companies May Undervalue Your Claim: Insurers often try to settle quickly and for less than a claim is worth. Without legal help, many victims don’t realize they’re entitled to more compensation than initially offered.
- Time Limits Matter: Texas law generally gives victims two years to file a personal injury claim. However, evidence can fade quickly, so it’s best to begin legal steps as soon as possible.
- Compensation Can Cover More Than Medical Bills: Lost wages, reduced earning capacity, pain and suffering, and future treatment costs may all be recoverable through a personal injury claim.
- Not All Injuries Are Immediately Apparent: Some symptoms—like those from internal injuries or concussions—may take hours or days to appear. Always get medical attention, even if you feel fine initially.
