Henderson Co., TX (August 21, 2024) – A motor vehicle accident reported in Henderson County on Sunday evening claimed the lives of two people. The Texas Department of Public Safety was called to the scene of the accident on August 18.
Police reports show that 45-year-old William Coker was driving a pickup truck northbound on Texas State Highway 198. At the same time, three motorcyclists were traveling southbound on the same roadway. For reasons unknown, Coker’s truck drove onto the wrong side of the roadway and collided with one of the motorcycles. The motorcyclist, identified as 52-year-old John Berkley, was pronounced deceased at the scene as a result of his injuries. The incident resulted in debris being scattered across the road. A second motorcyclist then struck the debris on the roadway.
The pickup truck then continued forward and collided with another motorcycle. The impact of the collision caused the second motorcyclist, 32-year-old Levi Lott, to be ejected from his vehicle. He was thrown over the bridge and landed in the water below. Lott was fatally injured and subsequently pronounced deceased by authorities. The driver of the pickup truck and his passenger were both transported to area hospitals for emergency care. At this time, the incident is being investigated.
We offer our sympathies to the families of Levi Lott and John Berkley at this time.
