Groesbeck, TX (July 27, 2025) – A Thursday morning crash near Groesbeck tragically claimed the lives of two local residents after a pickup truck failed to stop at a rural intersection.
According to Sgt. Ryan Howard with the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision occurred on July 24 around 8 a.m. at the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 39 and State Highway 164. A Dodge Ram approached the intersection but did not come to a stop, continuing through and crashing into a Honda sedan.
Inside the Honda were Jordan Trexler, 31, and Sheila Rutledge, 55, both from Groesbeck. Authorities confirmed that both Trexler and Rutledge were pronounced dead at the scene as a result of their injuries. The driver of the Dodge Ram survived the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Details about his current condition have not yet been shared. Officials from the Texas Department of Public Safety are continuing their investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of Jordan Trexler and Sheila Rutledge during this difficult time.
Car Accidents in Texas
Across Texas, thousands of fatal crashes occur each year. In 2023 alone, over 4,000 people died in roadway incidents across the state. Many of these involved rural roads and intersections, where signage can be missed or visibility is reduced. Tragic collisions like the one near Groesbeck serve as a reminder of the importance of always observing traffic signs and driving cautiously, especially in less populated areas.
When accidents occur, they often bring more than just physical consequences. Here are a few of the impacts families often face:
- Loss of income: When a loved one dies or is injured, their ability to support a family is cut short. Families can be left struggling to manage bills, daily expenses, and financial commitments once supported by the victim.
- Funeral and burial costs: These expenses can reach thousands of dollars unexpectedly, placing a heavy financial burden on grieving families who are already overwhelmed with loss.
- Loss of companionship: Beyond the financial toll, families suffer from the emotional loss of connection, guidance, and emotional support that a loved one provided.
- Psychological trauma: Those close to the deceased may experience long-term emotional struggles, including anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress, especially if they witnessed the incident or were involved.
- Legal uncertainty: Families may face unfamiliar legal processes and insurance claims while trying to grieve. These situations often feel confusing and frustrating without clear guidance.
