Car Accidents in Texas
Texas continues to lead the nation in roadway fatalities and serious injury crashes. In 2023, more than 4,000 people died, and over 15,000 were seriously hurt on Texas roads. With a growing population and expanding urban centers like Tyler, intersections and high-traffic corridors have become hot spots for collisions involving multiple vehicles and varying levels of injury.
Let’s explore one issue that many crash victims face long after the wreck itself—emotional and psychological trauma:
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): Some crash survivors experience flashbacks, nightmares, or severe anxiety tied to the event. PTSD can interfere with daily life and may require professional therapy or medication to manage.
- Driving Anxiety: Many people who experience serious crashes develop a fear of driving again. This can impact work, relationships, and independence—especially if public transportation isn’t accessible.
- Depression and Isolation: The physical limitations and life changes that follow a crash can lead to feelings of sadness or detachment. If untreated, this emotional toll can deepen into clinical depression.
- Anger and Irritability: Victims may feel helpless or frustrated—especially if the crash was preventable. These emotions can affect relationships, work, and the healing process.
- Children and Teen Trauma: Young passengers may be especially vulnerable to emotional distress following a crash. Their symptoms may be harder to spot and could include mood swings, sleep disturbances, or withdrawal.
