Car Accidents in Texas
Car accidents are a major issue in Texas, with thousands happening every year. In 2022 alone, the Texas Department of Transportation recorded over 600,000 crashes, resulting in more than 256,000 injuries. There are several common reasons for these accidents. One of the biggest causes is distracted driving, like texting or using a phone while behind the wheel. Speeding and reckless driving also contribute to the high number of crashes. Additionally, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs greatly increases the risk of accidents. Weather conditions, such as rain and fog, make driving even more dangerous, often leading to more collisions.
The injuries that come from car accidents can range from minor to severe. Traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) are a serious problem, especially when someone’s head hits an object during a crash. Broken bones, such as fractures in the arms, legs, or ribs, are also common, along with spinal cord injuries that can lead to mobility problems. Whiplash, a neck injury caused by sudden jerking motions, frequently occurs as well. Soft tissue injuries, like sprains and strains, are also very common and can cause ongoing pain and discomfort.
