Fatal Auto Accidents in Texas
Car accidents are a serious problem in Texas, with countless incidents occurring annually. In 2022, the Texas Department of Transportation documented over half of a million motor vehicle accidents. Various factors contribute to these accidents, with distracted driving—such as texting or using a phone—being a top cause. Excessive speed and reckless behavior behind the wheel also lead to a large number of collisions. Additionally, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol greatly heightens the chances of a crash. Adverse weather conditions, including rain and fog, further increase the likelihood of accidents on the road.
Injuries from car accidents can vary from minor to critical. Traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) are a major concern, especially when the victim’s head strikes something during the impact. Broken bones, like fractures in the limbs or ribs, are frequently reported, along with spinal injuries that can impair movement. Whiplash, which happens when the neck is jerked violently, is also a common outcome. Soft tissue injuries, including sprains and strains, can cause lasting pain and discomfort for victims.
