Pedestrian Accidents in Texas
Pedestrian accidents are a growing concern in Texas, especially in areas with heavy traffic and frequent commercial driveways. The Texas Department of Transportation reports that thousands of pedestrian crashes occur annually, often resulting in injuries or fatalities. Many of these incidents happen near intersections, parking lots, and driveways where vehicles and pedestrians frequently cross paths.
Here are some common reasons why pedestrian accidents occur:
- Failure to Yield – Drivers exiting parking lots or driveways sometimes fail to check for pedestrians, leading to serious collisions.
- Poor Visibility – Pedestrians are harder to see at night or in poorly lit areas, increasing the risk of being struck.
- Distracted Driving – Drivers who are looking at their phones or other distractions may not notice pedestrians until it is too late.
- Speeding Near Crosswalks – When drivers speed near intersections or driveways, they reduce their ability to stop in time for pedestrians crossing.
- Right-Turn Conflicts – Vehicles making right turns may not see pedestrians stepping into crosswalks or driveways, leading to crashes.
