Car Accidents in Texas
Car accidents are a significant problem in Texas, with thousands of incidents every year. In 2022, the Texas Department of Transportation reported over 600,000 crashes, leading to more than 256,000 injuries. Several factors commonly contribute to these accidents. One of the biggest issues is distracted driving, such as when drivers are texting or using their phones while behind the wheel. Speeding and reckless driving also play a major role in the high number of accidents. Additionally, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs greatly increases the likelihood of a collision. Even weather conditions like rain or fog make roads more dangerous, often leading to an increase in accidents.
The injuries that people experience in car accidents can vary from minor to life-threatening. Some of the most serious injuries include traumatic brain injuries (TBIs), which can occur when a person’s head hits an object during a crash. Broken bones are also common, with fractures often occurring in the arms, legs, or ribs. Spinal cord injuries are another serious concern and can lead to long-term mobility problems. Whiplash, a neck injury caused by sudden jerking motions, frequently happens in car accidents. Many victims also experience soft tissue injuries, such as sprains and strains, which can cause ongoing pain and discomfort for a long time after the accident.
