Car Accidents in Texas
Texas experiences thousands of fatal car accidents each year. According to state data, wildlife-related crashes are a growing concern, especially on rural roads like FM 2015. In 2023, there were over 9,000 reported crashes involving animals, many of which led to serious injuries or fatalities.
Understanding road hazards can help drivers stay safer. Here are some common risks that contribute to accidents in Texas:
- Animal Collisions: Deer and other wildlife can suddenly enter the road, especially at night. These accidents often lead to loss of control or secondary collisions with other vehicles.
- Rural Road Conditions: Many highways and county roads have limited lighting and narrow shoulders, making crashes more likely.
- Highway Speed Limits: Speed plays a critical role in the severity of crashes, particularly on roads where sudden obstacles can appear.
- Driver Reaction Time: Quick decisions are required when an animal enters the road. Swerving at high speeds can cause rollovers or collisions with oncoming traffic.
- Lack of Guardrails: Many rural roads lack barriers that could prevent vehicles from leaving the roadway in an emergency.
