Car Accidents in Texas
Car accidents happen far too often in Texas, with more than half a million crashes reported in 2022, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. Many of these accidents are the result of drivers becoming distracted or making poor choices behind the wheel.
Distracted driving is a leading cause of accidents across the state. With smartphones always nearby, many drivers take their eyes off the road to send a text, make a call, or check something online, even if just for a moment. Unfortunately, that quick distraction can result in a serious crash. Speeding is another major contributor. When drivers go over the speed limit, they have less time to react to sudden changes in traffic or road conditions, which significantly raises the chances of an accident.
Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs also remains a serious issue on Texas roads. Impaired drivers have slower reaction times and make poor decisions, often leading to dangerous situations. In 2022, a large portion of traffic-related deaths in Texas involved alcohol, highlighting the ongoing problem of drunk driving.
Weather conditions play a significant role in many accidents as well. Heavy rain, fog, and icy roads make driving more hazardous. Drivers who fail to slow down or adjust their driving behavior when the weather is bad are much more likely to cause an accident. Other reckless driving behaviors, like tailgating, weaving through traffic, and aggressive driving, also lead to crashes.
