Car Accidents in Texas

Kilgore, TX - Crash Reported on Stone Rd Near Danville RdTexas continues to lead the nation in motor vehicle crashes. In 2023 alone, there was at least one crash every 57 seconds across the state. With more than 4,000 fatalities and countless injuries resulting from roadway incidents, the risk of serious harm is high for those traveling on Texas roads, particularly in more rural areas where speeds tend to be higher and visibility may be lower.

After an accident, victims may have questions about their health, insurance, and legal options. Here’s what many don’t realize about crash-related injuries:

  • Soft Tissue Damage Is Common:
Whiplash, muscle sprains, and ligament tears are some of the most frequent—but often underestimated—injuries after a crash. These injuries can take days or weeks to fully present and may require long-term physical therapy to heal.
  • Concussions May Be Missed at First: Traumatic brain injuries can occur even when there is no visible head trauma. Victims may not immediately recognize symptoms like dizziness, confusion, or mood changes. That’s why prompt medical evaluation is crucial after any head movement from a crash.
  • Internal Injuries Can Be Life-Threatening: Blunt force trauma can damage internal organs, leading to bleeding or organ failure. Since these injuries aren’t always apparent externally, scans and tests are often needed to catch them early.
  • Fractures Are Not Always Obvious: Broken bones in the ribs, hands, or feet may not be obvious right after a crash. Swelling, bruising, and pain often show up later, so ongoing monitoring is essential even if the pain seems minor at first.
  • Back and Spinal Issues Can Linger: Herniated discs, pinched nerves, or vertebrae fractures can result in long-term pain and mobility challenges. These injuries often need MRIs for proper diagnosis and may lead to months of rehab or even surgery.
  • Mental Health Impacts Shouldn’t Be Ignored: Anxiety, depression, or PTSD can surface after an accident—especially for those who’ve experienced loss or severe injury. Therapy or counseling is sometimes necessary to fully recover.
