Pedestrian Accidents in Texas
Pedestrian accidents in Texas are a growing concern, with alarming statistics demonstrating the dangers pedestrians face on the roads. In 2022 alone, there were 5,764 traffic crashes involving pedestrians, leading to over 1,500 serious injuries and more than 800 deaths. Several common causes contribute to pedestrian crashes, many of which are driver-related. Here are some of the primary causes:
- Speeding: Traveling at a high rate of speed can drastically affect a driver’s reaction time and increase the severity of collisions with pedestrians.
- Failure to Yield: Drivers who fail to yield the right of way to pedestrians can cause serious accidents.
- Running Red Lights or Stop Signs: Ignoring traffic signals puts pedestrians crossing the street at significant risk.
- Left Turns: Drivers turning left may focus on oncoming traffic and fail to see pedestrians crossing in front of them.
These causes can lead to catastrophic outcomes for pedestrians, resulting in life-altering injuries such as traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, broken bones, internal bleeding, and lacerations. The physical, emotional, and financial toll on victims and their families can be overwhelming.
If you have been involved in a pedestrian accident, it is critical to seek legal assistance immediately.
