Cameron Co., TX (October 3, 2024) – A Cameron County Deputy lost her life as a result of a fatal accident that occurred on Monday in the Brownsville area. The collision took place at around 6:45 p.m. on September 30.
Official reports show that Deputy Constable Ruben Garcia was in a patrol unit on Texas State Highway 48. As the vehicle was parked on the highway near Marine Way Road, it was rear-ended by a white Chevrolet Silverado. The deputy was severely hurt in the accident. Garcia was rushed to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet stated that they were distracted by their phone while driving. At this time, the incident is under investigation.
