Bridge City, TX (January 15, 2025) – A motor vehicle accident claimed one person’s life late Monday evening, January 13, when a rear-end collision on Farm to Market Road 1442 in Bridge City left one man dead and another injured.
According to reports from the Bridge City Police Department, the crash occurred at approximately 9:37 p.m. in the 1300 block of FM 1442, also known as West Roundbunch. Andre Calmelet, 43, of Beaumont, was driving a 2014 Ford F-150 eastbound when his vehicle struck the back of a 2025 Tesla. The Tesla, driven by a 38-year-old man from Orange, veered into the south ditch following the collision. The driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.
Calmelet’s pickup overturned onto its driver’s side in the north ditch, hitting a concrete culvert. Bystanders and officers worked to pull him from the wreckage and attempted CPR. Despite their efforts, Calmelet was pronounced dead at the scene by Orange County Precinct One Justice of the Peace Hershel Stagner. Authorities are investigating the crash to determine the circumstances leading to this tragic event.
Our deepest condolences go out to Andre Calmelet’s loved ones. We also hope the injured man recovers fully.
Car Accidents in Texas
Texas is home to one of the busiest highway systems in the nation, which, unfortunately, also leads to a high number of traffic-related fatalities. Each year, over 3,600 people lose their lives in crashes, while thousands more suffer injuries in preventable collisions.
When fatal accidents occur, it’s crucial to understand the contributing factors:
- Rear-End Collisions: These are among the most common accident types and are often caused by tailgating or distracted driving. Rear-end crashes can be particularly deadly when vehicles are traveling at high speeds.
- Road Conditions: Poorly lit roads or unclear signage can contribute to accidents, especially in rural areas or during nighttime hours.
- Driver Fatigue: Driving while fatigued impairs reaction times and decision-making, leading to serious collisions.
By addressing these issues and promoting safer driving habits, Texas can work to reduce the number of preventable accidents.
